Where do the buses operate?+
Public buses travel around Rarotonga’s circular main road, Ara Tapu, serving the main accommodation, beach and town areas.
Where do buses start and finish?+
All public buses start and finish at Cooks’ Corner in Avarua.
Where can I catch the bus?+
Wave clearly from a safe place along the main road. Bus shelters are recommended, but the driver can stop elsewhere when there is enough safe space to pull over.
How do I stop the bus?+
Tell the driver where you are going when you board. As your destination approaches, move toward the front as a reminder when it is safe to do so.
Why might a bus not stop?+
The bus may be full or out of service, the stopping place may be unsafe, or the bus may be operating a different service such as a school route.
Do you accept card payments?+
Public-bus tickets are purchased with cash from the driver.
What is one ride?+
A ride is from Point A to Point B without passing your original boarding point again. A complete circle-island journey has its own $10 fare.
Can I bring luggage?+
Yes. Large suitcases and similar items cost $2 each and travel inside the bus with you because buses do not have separate luggage storage.
Do buses run on public holidays?+
A reduced Clockwise service operates on most public holidays. There are no buses on Good Friday, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
Do you offer private charters?+
Group transport may be available for schools, sports teams, churches, weddings and other large groups. Contact the office with your date, passenger numbers and itinerary.
Do you provide airport transfers?+
The public bus passes the airport. Private airport transfers are generally considered only for large groups; local taxi and tour operators are recommended for smaller groups.
